Pets and signs

One of the great things about San Francisco is its culture of homemade neighbor signs. Though they can be ugly or bizarre or offensive, often homemade neighbor reminder signs capture ones attention in a way that no generic sign ever can. And of course add some color to the neighborhood. These two from the Lower Haight area stopped me in my tracks:

We're in ... CRAFT!

CRAFT helps you make interesting stuff. Neighbors Project helps you "make" interesting neighborhoods. (More like, support, add to, etc.) So it's like strawberries and shortcake when we come together. Check out the sweetness in the new edition of CRAFT magazine, featuring an article on the Bodega Party in a Box.

"Volume 10: With funny-lady Amy Sedaris as our cover star, celebration is theme for CRAFT Volume 10. In this issue, we feature instructions to help you create the perfect mixtape for any party, make a keepsake wedding book, design beautiful invitations, and make customized plates and coasters, fancy hats, party cakes and cake toppers -- even put together the ideal cocktail bar. You just found a great excuse to throw a party!

Bodega Party in a Box on NY PIX Morning News

Cathy cooking eggs benedict.

Cathy Erway of Not Eating Out in NYC was on NY PIX's Morning Show to cook eggs benedict and talk about the Bodega Party in a Box. Cathy is one of the wonderful recipe contributors to the box, and we love her blog.

Watch the (brief) segment to see the set dressed up bodega-style and Cathy cook faster than you can say "breakfast sandwich."

Viva Daisy!

Viva Daisy!

Neighbors Project has been fortunate to work with a number of amazing foodies on the Bodega Party in a Box. We've been especially fortunate to work with Chef Daisy Martinez, who has some of the best insights into eating well from your local corner store.

So we're thrilled to share her happy news:

Viva Daisy! (executive produced by Rachael Ray’s production company, Watch Productions) debuts on the Food Network this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. More news at daisymartinez.com.

Watch and love!

Post-election - now what?

It's the day after a long, grueling election. No matter how you feel about the results, president elect Obama's call upon us all to get involved in our own communities during his acceptance speech hopefully made you think, "now what?" How do you bring change -- that benefits everyone -- to your own community?

Get involved with your neighborhood association. Where they exist, they're the organizations that can and do make things happen right on your local streets. And they need your passion and energy to help make positive changes on the ground.

Use our new maps of neighborhood associations in Chicago and San Francisco to find yours. And then our guide to getting involved to get the ball rolling.

Change begins at home.
